The Infrastructure

IBB Industriebahnhof Stade Brunshausen GmbH

The Industriebahnhof Stade-Brunshausen (industrial railway station) is a joint project consisting of 5 regional partners. In creating the station, the companies DOW Chemical Company, DB Schenker, Bertschi Group, Alfred Talke and the Hansestadt Stade aimed to develop an environmentally friendly rail transport connection. The Swiss Bertschi Group runs the railway station. From the industrial rail station there is a daily shuttle train from Stade to Hamburg-Billwerder and back, with access to the Europe-wide combined transport network and other gateway stations. There are also direct connections to all North and Baltic seaports and internal German transports, „Chem Solution“ to/from Stade/Cologne/Mannheim and Leipzig.

Rail Connection

The Hanseatic city of Stade is situated directly on the two-track railway line from Hamburg to Cuxhaven. The connection runs via Buxtehude and Harburg to Hamburg, where freight and passenger trains (S-Bahn and Metronom) run. The time windows for carrying out freight transports are, however, very short as passenger transport makes up the greater portion of the route capacity. The rail connection to the industrial area Stade Nord leads through the city and, due to some technical limitations, is considered to be inadequate in the long term. The aforementioned route 1263, is to be rebuilt, according to the Hansestadt Stade, as part of expansion step 5 of the A26 (Stade – Drochtersen). The IBB Industriebahnhof Stade-Brunshausen, which is also in the Stade Nord industrial area, carries out goods handling on rail. The Hansestadt Stade is a stakeholder in this company.

Road Connection

The national road B73 runs from Cuxhaven via Stade to Hamburg. The B74 connects Stade to Bremen via Bremervörde. The first leg of the motorway 26 (Stade – Hamburg) has been completed and is usable as far as Horneburg, where it currently fuses with the B73. On completion, the A26 will connect with the A7.

The new fixed Elbe crossing near Drochtersen (approx. 20 km from Stade) is to be built as part of the new transport plan. This tunnel will connect the A20 from Schleswig Holstein across Lower Saxony to The Netherlands. The current political climate in Schleswig Holstein has, however, lead to the plans not being carried out with the same priority as previously.

Waterways

The Seaport Stade on the Elbe is in the North of the industrial area and is around 5 km from the city centre. All services required by nautical vessels can be supplied in situ by local firms. The handling and storage areas are located on paved and flood-proof areas on navigable waters, irrespective of the tide. Of particular note is the proximity to the North Sea-Baltic Canal and the North Sea. Likewise, the federal waterways can be reached quickly through the Port of Hamburg.
